Earthquake Relief
We have all seen the devastation and destruction that has been happening around the world. Massive earthquakes of magnitude 7 and above followed by weeks and months of after shocks some aftershocks even as large as 6.5-8 that continue to cause trouble during recovery and times of rebuilding. If you would like to donate directly to a specific earthquake hit area here are a few of those where UMCOR is already on the ground and will continue to be in the country's for years to come rebuilding and assisting people affected by these natural disasters. 100% of your donation will go directly towards the specific emergency.
Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
11, 2011 a record 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan. This earthquake its self caused enormous damage the earthquake was felt 200km away in the capitol city of Tokyo, even knocking out power and communication there. This record earthquake was then followed by a very devastating tsunami which struck the coastal areas of Japan with in minutes. To donate to the emergency in Japan please donate through your church offering by designating Pacific Emergency Advance #3021317 or by clicking the link below.
Haiti Earthquake
On January 12, 2010, at 4:53PM a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti killing an estimated 250,000 people in the capital city and surrounding areas. UMCOR the United Methodist Committee on Relief has been actively working inside the country of Haiti since 2005. So personnel and resources were already in place to begin recovery and relief efforts immediately. Through the United Methodist Church advance #418325 you can give directly to relief efforts in Haiti. One hundred percent of all gifts large or small will go directly to relief efforts in Haiti.
Chile Earthquake
On February 27, 2010, a record 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck just off the coast of Chile. While this earthquake was much stronger than the Haiti earthquake, because of better building codes and the use of better building materials the initial damage and loss of life is expected to be far less than in Haiti. However, there is still a need for aide and assistance. UMCOR through the United Methodist Church advance # 3021178 will be providing emergency relief and long-term development support for disaster-affected communities in the South American country of Chile. As always, 100% of your donation and funds collected will go towards relief efforts in Chile through this advance #3021178.

Tornados in S.E. Oklahoma
On Thursday April 14, 2011, a series of tornados hit the southeast Oklahoma region. The governor has declared a state of emergency for 26 counties in Oklahoma. This clean up and recovery will take many months. 90% of the town of Tushka, Oklahoma was destroyed. OIMC members are working with the Sobel and Corinne communities to remove debris. Workers are on site at Goodwater United Methodist Church in Rattan, Okla. to repair damage to the roof of that church. The Conference needs donations to assist with clean up costs, particularly gas for the chainsaws. The Choctaw Nation Outreach Services is requesting donations of children and adult clothing, including shoes, socks, & underwear. With a special requests for hygiene products, including soaps, hand sanitizers, toothpast and shampoo. The rural areas targeted for these items are Tushka, Atoka, Rattan, Sobol, Dunbar, Clayton, and Talihina. These are all within the SE region of the OIMC. The local drop off point in Talihina is the Choctaw Nation SR Center. The Choctaw Nation has also been delivering lunches to those in the affected areas.
